I have never actually decided on a movie by just looking at the promos. I visit Apple.com/trailers often to watch trailers of upcoming releases. Infact the way trailers are done these days, the guys who create them deserver a lot more recognition. But alas, this view of mine was shattered by the latest bollywood super flick, 'RGV Ki Aag'. One look at the promos, and I knew this was going to sweeps all the The Razzie Awards if we had them in Bollywood. It looks shockingly deplorable.
So please, don't waste your money and time on this worthless piece of crap, donate the money to some charities instead!

It's US Open!
Ok, with the last grand slam of 2007 already a day old, let me let the world know my favorites. I would like Rafa to win this one beating Roger in the finals in 4 sets. And for the ladies, I really like Bartoli. She is what I say, charming. So Bartoli in the ladies singles.
Of course, my favorites, are just that. I remember this one time, when I had confidently picked the 4 who would make it to the semis, after having a look at the quarter-final draw, and they all lost.
On another note, Massa won. Yeah, he won. This was a good result as it reduces Lewis's lead in the Championship. It looks like it will go down to the wire this year. And I hope it's a scarlet wire that stays ahead!
PS: My hundredth post, hurray!!!

Putters and Racers
Phew! What a race! Cars going off at the first corner was so comical. I have never been so amused in F1. Thanks to the TV crews for the way they captured the making of the most expensive car park.
Restarting the race was sensible, as Weber mentioned in the post race conference. And talking about the post race events. I for a moment thought that Massa and Alonso would actually end up in a fist fight on the podium. Schumi must have been wondering why did he leave F1 for guy like Massa. Massa, to be frank may have the pace in the qualifying. But when it comes to racing under pressure, I don't think he has what it takes to become a world champion. He just loses it. Alonso did a good job with the overtaking and he deserved the win.
Now focusing on the other big sports event of the day, the British Open. And the contrast between the two couldn't be greater. In one the racers are driving past at 300kmph and in the other they players are strolling on pristine grass on a sunny day. Yeah, I was watching it on and off. And then Sergio missed the put on the 18th hole and the playoff was called upon to decide the winner I was all hooked. I know the basics of golf, not the finer details like what happens when you drive the ball into a pond or stream. But that's another discussion, on another day. Getting back to the play off, you somehow knew at the back of the mind that it was not going to be Sergio's day after the way the ball kissed the edge on the 18th. And Harrington was so calm and composed. By far the best Open championships for a very long time.

Be happy, blog happy!
I wish I find more happy blogs instead of the sad ones, or the advertisement ones or the informercials ones. How come people generally blog about how nothing went right the whole day. I find scores of people blogging about how things can get no worse. I myself blog about the negative aspects of my life more often. What is this about the human being that makes him want to publish his misfortunes so that it is available to the whole wide world?
I hardly know of any blog that celebrated all the good fortune they had?
Fellow blogger, lets bring some more cheer in this world.

Tennis
It was legendary, the match. Reminded me of Stefan and Boris's classics. And I hope, really hope we have 3 in a row next year. The last time that I really felt privileged was while watching the Rafter v/s Goran in the finals. That too was phenomenal.
I think Rafa almost had Roger. The way he won the fourth set, and the way Roger lost it questioning the Hawk eye, unbelievable. I have never seen Roger so frustrated. I thought Roger didn't have that emotion within himself. He demeanors oncourt are so pristine.
And then in the fifth Roger proved why he is regarded as one of the greatest player of my time. He held on to his serve twice and then he broke Rafa. How very often, in Men’s tennis, Championships are decided on one single game. This was one such occasion. Though I so badly wanted Rafa to win this one, I cannot, but bow to the greatness of Roger, his class, his tennis on grass.
Well done Roger, you deserved it. And Rafa, I hope you can beat him next year!

Rafa!
He is the best. When you see him play Federer on clay, Ferderer looks so ordinary. Federer doesn't look hungry enough. It's more like he sees Nadal as a hindrance to his Grand Slam dream than a final step. FedEx has to realise that to be remembered as the greatest he has to defeat Nadal in a French Open and claim his Grand Slam. And it has to be a defeat over Nadal.

An update
I now have my own site. So I am thinking of blogging there too. I am not sure what to do. This blog provides me with anonymity. The other one is exactly opposite. I hope to continue to blog here often. This blog will always be special.

Early morning emotions
Reading the Time of India early morning brings a myriad of thoughts. The news of SC staying the OBC quota strengthens the faith in the Indian judiciary. It gives hope to the students who opposed it and fought against it, esp the medical student from Delhi. Three cheers to you guys! An interesting observation that SC pointed out is that India is probably the only nation where its people try hard to prove that he is more backward than the other.
Then there is this other news that the sex ratio in India is declining. I really fail to understand this. Bringing a new life in this world in itself is such a miracle and then to grudge over a minor detail like the sex of the child, it’s so unfortunate.
And the final interesting news is that some swimmer from Kolhapur, Maharashtra qualified for the Beijing Olympics. A welcome news in a nation which is mourning the demise of it’s cricket.

Ti amo, Je t'aime, I love you, Mein tumse pyar karta hoon
“Some people never say the words 'I love you'. It's not their style to be so bold. Some people never say those words: 'I love you' But, like a child, they're longing to be told.” This is a quote from Paul Simon of the Simon and Garfunkel. I found it very interesting. When you really think about it, it really starts to make sense. I myself have never said these words to my mom, dad, brother, or even any girl. I find the sentence awkward. Why? I am not sure. I assume that my family knows that I love them. Saying these words explicitly somehow show unmanly traits, so it seems to me. I don't know. Saying the same words to a girl, thats equally daunting especially for a guy. It's like baring yourself at the mercy of the one you love. That's what I thought before I read the quote. Now, it seems like saying 'I love you' is such a selfless, brave thing to do. You basically say to the other person, a girl in my case that I love you, I want you to share my life, I want to provide for you, I want you to bear my kids, I want to take care of you. And I want you to accept me into your life.

Vincent
My second song post. The first one was 'You are beautiful' by James Blunt. I came to know about the song because of a blog that I read. I must say, these are amazing lyrics. But then it's Don Mclean, the man behind 'American Pie'
Starry, starry night
Paint your palette blue and gray
Look out on a summer's day
With eyes that know the darkness in my soul
Shadows on the hills
Sketch the trees and the daffodils
Catch the breeze and the winter chills
In colors on the snowy linen land
Now I understand
What you tried to say to me
How you suffered for your sanity
How you tried to set them free
They would not listen they did not know how
Perhaps they'll listen now
Starry, starry night
Flaming flowers that brightly blaze
Swirling clouds in violet haze
Reflecting Vincent's eyes of China blue
Colors changing hue
Morning fields of amber grain
Weathered faces lined in pain
Are soothed beneath the artist's loving hands
Now I understand
What you tried to say to me
How you suffered for your sanity
How you tried to set them free
They would not listen they did not know how
Perhaps they'll listen now
For they could not love you
But still your love was true
And when no hope was left inside
On that starry, starry night
You took your life as lovers often do
But I could have told you Vincent
This world was never meant for one as
beautiful as you
Starry, starry night
Portraits hung in empty halls
Frameless heads on nameless walls
With eyes that watch the world and can't forget
Like the strangers that you've met
The ragged men in ragged clothes
A silver thorn on a bloody rose
Lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow
Now I think I know
What you tried to say to me
How you suffered for your sanity
How you tried to set them free
They would not listen they're not listening still
Perhaps they never will
Starry, starry night

Blogging
Why do I blog. I don't know for sure. It is, I guess an outlet for my thoughts, views, hopes, frustrations, and maybe I am just too lonely, I have no one to share them with. Maybe I am not open enough to share my views with people I know. I love blogging and bloggers. I skim through numerous blogs hoping to find something that I would enjoy reading, maybe make me reflect for a while and maybe even question myself. And I have realized that there so many bloggers out there who are so brilliant at expressing themselves. Creativity is in abundance. I wonder if people realize what vast wealth is available if only they are willing to be patient and open. One more thing that I noticed that more women bloggers write poems. I have never come across a blog written by a man who pens down poems. I find this very interesting as English literature in its history have included both men and women writings poems. And blogging is a new kind of medium to enrich English. It is definitely the most liberal. One can blog about anything.
I am very curious to know what my readers think of my blog. I want to know if it is good, or ordinary. My blog is about my day. It’s what I think now, nothing more, nothing less.

Of thongs and guys
Aah, seeing a desi girl's thong is a real turn on. It's gets your mind racing, along with the pulse. It really is tough work for the neck muscles as one tries to steal a quick peek every now and then ;) I think it's more the thought that here is a girl who feels raunchy that triggers the carnal desire in men, rather than the visual image. I would have loved to say she looked sensous, but I think the word is too classy for a 'whale-tail'.
Here is what happened. We had gone to have dinner in a restaurant, and there was this girl who looked 'hep'. She sat on the table next to us. One of my friend quietly informed us about the thong. Then began the search for oppurtunities to find subtle ways to look at her. It was interesting. I think before we finished our dinner we all managed to get a glimpse of the pink thong. I must say it was not something that would keep me awake all night but nonetheless it was a sight. The girl didn't look all that stunning, but I guess she uses these 'peekaboos' to make up for her looks inorder to get attention.
Anyways, I will say this to you ladies, if you are wearing a thong, please don't act surprised if guys stare at it. It's just us being 'straight'!

I do have Oscar sense!
Ah ha.. I was right about 'The Departed'. Truly it was the most engrossing movie I have seen in a while. I still remember the tension in the scene in the warehouse... Well deserved Oscars, both for the movie and the director.
I must also mention, I thoroughly enjoyed 'Little Miss Sunshine' too.

Ola LAKSHADWEEP
Last week I was vacationing, in LAKSHADWEEP! What a beautiful place. It felt like I was in paradise, away from family, colleagues, work, phones, everything. Just me and my very close friends.
We boarded a cruise, "Tippu Sultan" to the islands. It would take us to 3 islands. It would drop us on to the islands in the mornings and then pick us up in the evening. All day we would spend on the picturesque beaches swimming, kayaking, snorkeling, scuba diving or just plain talking with each other. I enjoyed every moment. The water is of all shades from green to blue, it's clear and with corals.
For those of you who may have seen the pictures of it, the islands are truly like how it is shown in the pictures.
General information about the islands
*There are 36 islands
*Kavaratti is the capital
*There is only on cell phone provider on the main island, BSNL, and they don't allow roaming on their network
*ISD/STD booths are present, but there are very few of them
*The locals speak Malayalam
*The only place I know in India with coral reefs, and according to a person who has seen the Great Barrier Reef, these corals are as good as the ones there.
The cruise is arranged by a group called SPORTS, Lakshadweep with offices in Cochin. The cruise is very decently managed. They serve good enough food. Ship ride itself is very smooth.

one more thing, an iPhone!
The first thing I did today was open the Apple.com and see what Steve Jobs unveiled. And finally we have the iPhone. What an amazing device. I mean I always had an idea of what a phone from Apple would be, but this just blows your mind. It's so cool, and the way Steve presented it, just make you drool. I must have it! Sadly it will take a while. It's marvelous and so beautiful. State of the art, and yet simple. One wonders why it took so long.
Cheers!
Cheers!

If you are using Yahoo! Mail Beta, then you know the Liam I am talking about. The guy is really cool. His antics are so funny, especially the latest one where he is chased by an ostrich.

Babel & Hotel Rwanda
Ah.. What a weekend. When I have nothing to do, I normally watch movies. And watch all kinds. Hmm except maybe Hindi b-grade masala skin flicks. Watching them is a torture. Anyways, I must say most of the movies I watch are generally recommended b y friends. Also I must say, I generally go by the reviews. Once in a while I do experiment. So this weekend I saw a couple. The first one was Babel. Recommended by a friend who has an interesting choice of movies. Since it was playing in a theatre nearby, I went and saw it, that too alone. Not many of my friends prefer a movie like Babel. Infact many declined to accompany me. But that’s ok. So I went alone. I think it was a good movie. Somewhat similar to Crash. Brad Pitt was amazing, so were most of the cast. I guess the point the director wanted to make got across to me. No matter how many mediums of communications we have, it’s emotions more than words that communicate or mis-communicate rather. Then on Sunday I decided to watch Hotel Rwanda. And it made me cry. I wish I could say that it was a good movie, but frankly I wish we never had to make that movie. I wish I could just not acknowledge that some thing like that could happen during my times. Sometimes, it's such a shame to be a human being. And when I read news even today, these things continue to happen. Humans are capable of so much cruelty, capable of transforming into monsters.
I really admire you, Paul Rusesabagina!
Bloggers, if you haven't watched the movie, I recommend you do. We need to atleast experience the terror of a massacre, luckily through a television while sitting in a couch.
